La Tzoumaz
Discover the beauty of nature with your family
La Tzoumaz, formerly known as “les Mayens-de-Riddes”, takes its name from the verb “tzoumer” which, in local dialect, means to take a break. Situated on the north-facing slopes of Verbier, this sunny resort overlooks the Rhone valley. It is part of the Savoleyres ski area, which lies at an altitude of 2,200 m. Very popular with families, it has 13 runs covering 41 km and is linked to Verbier 4Vallées. On the northern side, you can enjoy unspoiled snow and to the south, you will find sunny slopes with a breathtaking view of Verbier.
For a change, you can try freestyle skiing on the Copperfield School Funslope or zoom down one of the longest toboggan runs in French-speaking Switzerland, which goes from Savoleyres to La Tzoumaz. Experienced skiers can practise their slalom techniques on the two competition stadiums. And if you fancy a bite to eat, why not sample some culinary specialities in one of the restaurants.
During the winter, there is also a natural ice rink and a heated swimming pool.
Sport and authenticity
During the summer, there is plenty for you to enjoy, such as mountain biking, hiking and daily activities for children. The Verbier-La Tzoumaz bike park has 9 tracks for all levels of skill. You can drive from La Tzoumaz to Verbier and back again very easily if you go over the Croix-de-Cœur pass. In La Tzoumaz, learn all about local wildlife in the Maison de la forêt. From there, you can set off along the Sentier des Sens (senses trail) and discover nature with a special quiz (Quiz des 5 sens), using all five of your senses. Hikers can also discover the bisses, in particular the Saxon one. These man-made irrigation channels have been used in Valais since the Middle Ages to carry water from high up in the mountains to the pastures and orchards below.
