Tour du Mont-Fort
Fontanet-Col de la Chaux-Siviez
Welcome to the world of glaciers!
This beautiful hike will take you to the foot of the Tortin and Grand Désert glaciers via two mountain passes: the Col de la Chaux and the Col de Louvie. You will then head down towards the Grand Désert lake and continue on to the Cleuson dam and Siviez. From there, you can reach Tortin on foot or by taking the chairlift, and then take the cable car back to the Col des Gentianes.
You can also start from Tortin or Siviez and walk in the opposite direction. In that case, there is a much greater height difference (approx. 1,600 m)!
This is a technically challenging hike, only suitable for experienced hikers who are properly equipped (solid shoes with good sole profiles, for example VIBRAM, appropriate clothing and walking poles).
This summer, the Cabane du Mont-Fort is inaccessible due to renovation work. For hikers looking to stay overnight or for longer, you can get some well-earned rest at Maison des Ruinettes.
