Sentier des chamois
La Chaux-Fionnay
The Sentier des Chamois provides great opportunities for observing local wildlife. You can start at either Les Ruinettes or La Chaux, both of which can be reached by cable car.
From La Chaux, descend towards Le Mintset and, from there, head up to the Col du Termin (2,648 m). The paths round there are exposed and require a sure foot and a good head for heights. The trail then twists down to the Cabane de Louvie (2,250 m), where you’ll find a lovely sunny terrace. From there, you can continue on down to Fionnay. You may well meet some chamois or ibex along the way!
The “Sentier des Chamois” package includes the bus journey from Fionnay back to Le Châble.
Variant
You can leave from Fionnay instead and walk in the opposite direction. In that case, there is a much greater height difference (1,500 m)!
