Drawing on many years of success in the past, the Opening Session event is back after a two-year break due to Covid. The Opening Session marks the start of the winter season and calls on all Saint Nicholas to gather at the Verbier ski area on Saturday, 3 December 2022.
For the occasion, the price of a day’s skiing is just CHF 5! This year for the first time, those wishing to participate in the event will be able to register online. To secure your spot, you can simply register directly on the Verbier 4Vallées website. Please bear in mind that capacity is limited to 2,000 participants!
The programme for the day begins early in the morning with a free train (in collaboration with RegionAlps) departing from Geneva and stopping at all the main towns between Geneva and Le Châble. You can look forward to coffee and croissants aboard this special train, at Le Châble train station and at the cable car station in Verbier (Médran).
After a few runs down the ski slopes, don’t miss the get-together at Chalet Carlsberg to enjoy Happy Hour with music from DJ Valentin Stutz, taking place from 2pm to 4pm. The party continues at Médran Café at 4.30pm with free mulled wine for all the Saint Nicholas who can wiggle their hips to the rhythm of the DJ’s set.
A jump will be installed at Place Centrale in Verbier from 2pm to 7pm. The more adventurous can have some fun trying out their most impressive jumps! A photographer will be there, and the best photos will be posted on social media.
Part of the amount collected for the ski passes will be donated to the “Theodora Foundation”. Its mission is to offer moments of laughter and escape to children who are hospitalised or have disabilities. Each week, the Foundation organises visits from professional artists, called Dream Doctors, to hospitals and specialist institutions in Switzerland. During each visit, the Dream Doctors conjure up imaginary worlds through improvisations tailored to the children.
