Family fun in Verbier

Date

This winter, let me bring you to my favourite playground: Verbier and its surroundings. Bursting with loads of gems, some better known than others, this amazing resort provides spectacular views over the Alps. Everyone, from those learning to ski to experienced freeriders, will enjoy themselves in this resort, which is so dear to me. Let me introduce you to my “Verbier Playground” in a series of articles.

In this third article about the Verbier playground, I’d like to tell you about a typical family day out with my 2-year-old son, Odin, and my husband, Simon. Verbier isn’t only an amazing playground for skiers, snowboarders and freeriders; there are also lots of outdoor activities for young children.

Les Esserts

Les Esserts, which is divided into two zones, is perfect for young children and people who wish to learn how to ski or snowboard. Situated in the middle of the resort, on the Esserts golf course, it’s easy to reach either by car or with the free shuttle bus service in Verbier (take line 2 from Médran, direction Hameau). There is a gentle mini-slope, equipped with a “magic carpet”, and a longer slope with a ski lift. Both are ideal for beginners.

Odin loves Les Esserts. He’s only 2 years old and not only is he able to ski down the “big” slope, but he has tried out snowboarding, too. Later on, we’ll see which he prefers, but for now, he seems to enjoy both.

After skiing for a while, we take a break on the big, sunny terrace of the Restaurant des Esserts.

Verbier

Family time

All in all, a great family day out in Verbier! When I’m not freeriding on the surrounding peaks, I really enjoy spending time with my family and appreciate all the possibilities available in this resort. This allows me to share my love of nature with my son, to show him the places I love and to pass on my passion to him on slopes which are suited to his level. Verbier is a really fantastic place to bring up children.
